Gary Schneider is a Professor of Accounting at California State University Monterey Bay. He previously held teaching appointments at Quinnipiac University, the University of San Diego, the University of Tennessee, and Xavier University. The author of more than 50 books and 100 research papers, Dr. Schneider has written extensively on accounting and information systems topics with his work appearing in such journals as Accounting Horizons, Interfaces, the IS Audit & Control Journal, and the Journal of Information Systems. His books have been translated into Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, and Spanish. A CPA who practiced public accounting in Ohio for 14 years before undertaking his academic career, Dr. Schneider holds a Ph.D. in accounting information systems from the University of Tennessee, an MBA from Xavier University, and a BA in economics from the University of Cincinnati.

There is nothing in this text that you can't find pretty easily on the Internet. The information itself is also fairly outdated. I guess it provides some decent "history" of eCommerce from back in the day (dot.com era) if you weren't already privy to that information. I can see why this is mostly a text used by Business School classes... it is not a serious eCommerce book, but more of an "eCommerce for Managers" type of book.

If I were serious about learning more about electronic commerce, I would not use this book to do it.

For All Those Times You Wanted To Know What To Do When Your Elevator Was On The Freefall

Do you feel your child is about to go into the world without all the "necessary" skills? Do you feel your loved one isn't adequately prepared to face life's most daunting challenges? Have you ever wondered what to do if you're stuck on a raising drawbridge? Are you so paranoid that you look for an escape to every situation? If you answered yes to any and/or all of these questions, then buy this book, NOW! This is your bible to every worst-case situation that life may throw at you, and more.

But don't think this is strictly a humor book, and sure it may contain some of that, like how to escape from a costumed character/mascot, or you should escape a meeting by crawling under the table, but there's plenty of serious entries to go along. For example, if your elevator is plummeting, something I fear all the time, then you should lie flat on your stomach to distribute the force. They do go to experts for many of these entries, and although I wouldn't like to test any of them, I'm sure they're pretty useful in the situation.

It's the best-of the long-time series, sure to help with most any predicament you may find yourself in. And for further reference, this edition contains a CD with ever scenario, in full, complete with a few wallpapers and screensavers for good measure. Just be warned, every scenario is in Adobe Acrobat format, which I hate since it's such a difficult program to navigate.

Overall, you can't go wrong in giving this as a gift to somebody, whether you're giving it to them for practical or enjoyment purposes. I highly recommend it for any rainy day, paranoid people, or anybody who just ever wondered what to do if... well, you get the point.

If Ernest Hemingway wrote fantasy short stories he might have written like Robert E. Howard. But he didn't. No matter we have Robert E. Howard instead. And this deluxe edition of fantasy stories featuring the characters Bran Mak Morn and Conan are illustrated throughout by none other than Frank Frazetta. It just doesn't get much better than that.

The stories are old, but stil thrill. The drawings seem to make each page come to life. And it is all presented in a hardcover of such quality that it is a collector's item. Glad I bought it when I first saw it in Bud Plant Catalog many years ago.

I like this book and use it. C for dummies is too full of words having nothing to do with c while many other books are too full of words having so much to do with c that you can not find anything. This is the ABCs of c. It does not include algorithms or cover the peculiarities of special function registers in micro-controllers but if you haven't used "case" in awhile or forgotten the symbol for nor it is a great reference. I've recommended it to colleagues and have received good feedback.

A very informative and practical text for statisticians and applied researchers interested in analyzing time-to-event data. The chapters are concise, well written and packed with useful real life examples. The underlying theory is clearly presented and supplemented with numerous diagrams and tables. Basic survival concepts and methods, such as parametric regression modeling, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and Cox regression are superbly covered. Allison has put together an excellent resource for survival analysis for the novice, researchers with a limited knowledge of statistics and those with extensive knowledge of statistics. His book contains nine chapters. The first two are introductory information on survival analysis including what survival analysis is, when and why one would use this technique, and approaches to survival analysis including life tables, Kaplan-Meier (KM), exponential regression, and proportional hazard regression. A description of probability functions, including the hazard function are explained in a manner that is easily understood. Chapter 3 explains using the procedure PROC LIFETEST, which produces estimates of survival functions using life tables or KM. Examples and sample data sets are provided for this procedure, and others that follow. Chapter 4 explains the procedure PROC LIFEREG, which produces estimates of parametric regression models with censored survival data using the method of maximum likelihood. Chapter 5 explains use of the procedure PROC PHREG which is proportional hazard modeling or the cox regression model. This procedure is fairly new, and only recently has been included in the core SAS STAT modules. The proportional hazard model has many applications due to the non-parametric nature of the model. Unlike PROC LIFEREG, PHREG does not depend on choosing a particular probability distribution to represent survival times. Allison's description of the model and the syntax for SAS is very easy to follow. Chapter 6 explains concept of competing risks and how to deal with them in the procedures already explained. Chapter 7 explains using PROC LOGISTIC, PROBIT and GENMOD when a survival history is broken down into a set of discrete observations. This chapter provides a quick summary of logistic regression models using SAS, and users with an advance need in this area should use the book Logistic Regression Examples which contains much more detail. Paul D. Allison is Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches graduate courses in survival analysis and categorical data analysis. This older edition still has much to offer

Survival analysis represented a significant gap in my statistical training and this older edition of Allison's text has addressed my needs. The text provides fascinating explorations into the wide possibilities for outcome measurement. Mind you, the age of this edition raises a slight challenge in that significant portions of the SAS coding is different in newer versions of SAS (much coding will not work if simply copied verbatim). But hey, good to have to figure out the workarounds.

I never took a survival course in college but had to do some analyses for work. This book had the right amount of theory to understand everything and showed how to perform the analyses in SAS wonderfully. I pull out this book every time I have to do a survival analysis and always find what I need. Highly recommend.

Excellent product, had an issue but quickly remedied!

This textbook is excellent! I had an issue with the Access Code but it was remedied within 24 hours. I'll detail what happened in case anyone else has a similar issue. When I tried to register the Access Code (to download the 48 songs included and view helpful links) it told me that the Access Code had expired. I called the publisher's customer service number and was connected with the rudest customer service person I've ever encountered. She refused to help me because I didn't purchase the textbook through them and told me to contact Amazon.com. This did not seem right (what was Amazon.com going to do about the Access Code?) so I tried their customer service chat option. The person I was connected with was very nice and helpful. He said that the Access Codes will expire after a time and the book had probably sat on the shelf too long. He couldn't personally do anything so he forwarded my issue to someone who could and said I would receive an email soon. The next morning I received an email from them saying that my Access Code had been re-activated and I could access the website without any problems.

I did contact Amazon.com after using the publisher's customer service chat option just to see what they could do in case the publisher didn't reply. Amazon.com was super helpful and said I could return the book for a replacement. Since there wasn't anything wrong with the book (and the replacement could have the same problem) I waited to see if the publisher would re-activate the Access Code first, which they did. With the exception of the publisher's first customer service (or should I say customer "disservice") representative it was a pleasant experience and easy problem to remedy.

The BEST book on Social, Folk and Square dancing.

Without a doubt this is the best book on my shelf. I teach a wide variety of Social, Folk and Square dancing here and abroad, this one book has everything I need, including a CD with many of the songs I use.
