Holy grail for introverts!

I loved this book! For someone who has grown up an introvert all his life, this book gave me the tools I needed to work on my public speaking and communication skills in general. As an engineer people assume that I don't have much to say or I'm not in a position of leadership when that is the opposite. Sometimes i get caught up worry about what people think instead of asserting myself through my voice. This is a phenomenal book and if you're reserved or introverted like me, you should give it a read. I highly recommended it.

Helpful collection of advice to aid in public speaking. Probably not all of it will blow your mind, but at least some will, and there are samples for everything which is the most valuable part of the book. On second thought, worth it for the samples alone and how to use the advice.

Very detailed stuff on making your next speech, and there are examples for everything that you can really just plug your own stuff into it and it would work nicely.

The rest? Your own practice, but that shouldn't be a surprise :)

Not For Me

He is a refugee, a Zetithian without a planet and one of the last of his kind since his world was blown out of the galaxy by a jealous, sadistic husband. He is revered as a sexual dynamo. It's both his job, and, as he and his brethren are tasked with saving his kind from extinction by reproducing in quantity, his calling. And he's gotten very, very rich from it. Women from all over the universe pay just about anything for a few hours in his bed, for a chance to bear his children. He has five hundred of them, now, but his duty is not yet finished.

That's why he's on Terran. Human women are known for being intensely attracted to his kind. He already had several appointments to further spread his seed. And then, intending nothing more salacious than a simple meal, Tarq Zulveidinoe enters the restaurant where Lucinda Force works as a waitress for her demanding father, and life will never be the same for him again.

She smells so good. It's unlike anything he's ever scented before, and he wants her madly. She may even be his mate. Her scent has him ready to pound nails and his fangs are ready to nip at her skin. But he is not worthy of her. Of that he has no doubt. And even though she wants him to sire her children, she doesn't want to keep him.

If only he had the time to try to convince her.

Lucy can't even look at Tarq without wanting him. Who could? He's gorgeous, built, and charming. His reputation as a galaxy-hopping love machine is legendary. He doesn't even charge women to sleep with him anymore, he's so rich. He just wants to reproduce, to increase the numbers of his race.

Fortunately, that works out nicely for Lucy. At almost thirty, she's desperate for children, but her father keeps her mired in indentured servitude and won't even let her date, let alone marry and have children. She's still a virgin, for pity's sake. But when the deliciously appealing Tarq asks her to call him, to be with him, she decides to grab for her future with both hands.

She'll have Tarq impregnate her, then she'll flee her imposing father, find her happiness, and start her life for real as she raises her children. And if she'll never forget the Zetithian who made her heart happy, well, it's not like he hasn't a string of lovers in the galaxy. She knows he'd never want her for life. She's too plain, too provincial, too...Lucy...to ever hold onto the man she so quickly and irrevocably fell in love with.

There are some books that just aren't good fits for me, and this one is one of them. I didn't have a problem with it being the eighth book in an existing series. It read fine as a stand-alone. Unfortunately, little else in the book appealed, despite me sort of liking the Zetithian backstory and enjoying the external plot threads in the second half of the book.

The biggest problem I had with the story was the relationship conflict between Tarq and Lucy. Not only was it something that could have been easily resolved with just a smidgen of honest communication between them, but it was belabored throughout the entire book. Mentioned so often, in fact, that it lent the narrative an overall feeling of repetition and made it hard not to toss my Kindle against the wall.

He loves her, but he thinks he's stupid because he can't read and he's bedded more women than an NBA basketball team (to the nth power). She's all things good and kind and would never want to be his mate. She loves him, but she's plain and ordinary, and could never hold the attention of someone as worldly and experienced as he. He would never want to stay with her. These insecurities are brought up again and again, ad nauseam. And despite the loving actions of both towards each other, neither finds the stones to even broach the subject with the other. This is not my idea of scintillating romantic conflict.

It wasn't until the second half of the book that some external conflict elements were introduced and the plot expanded beyond the romance. Some of those elements were quite nice, but I would have appreciated a bit more depth and detail. It served, though, to lessen the constant mentions of Tarq's and Lucy's insecurities, even if it didn't extinguish them completely. I wish it had.

There were other issues I had with the book, but those were comparatively minor when held up against the relationship problems. Still, the dialogue and the character definition were lacking in sophistication. I kept feeling like I was reading about a couple of horny teenagers with the way some of the characters thoughts and actions were represented. The sex was in no way adolescent, though. It was frequent and descriptive. It was also a bit odd for me, in part because of a Zetithian's physiological differences from a human. In part because of some of the descriptive passages.

"Thick and long, it curved toward her like a snake about to strike, the scalloped head aimed right at her, orgasmic syrup dripping like venom from the points."

Wow. Yeah. That's...well...more scary than sexy to me, no matter how nice Tarq's snard (yes, that's the Zetithian word for his ejaculate) tastes (like a hot fudge sundae, apparently). And that wasn't the only disturbing thing about his body or his talents. Practically prehensile manly bits are nice in theory, but kind of disturbing in context.

After eight books, I have to assume that Brooks has a wide following, that there are many fans of this series. I wish her nothing but the best for the continued success. After Stud, however, I can't say I'll be along for the ride. This one just wasn't my cup of tea.

Getting Better with each new book

The 8th book in the series, Cheryl Brooks continues to titillate readers' imagination with her wonderful Zithitians. Forget Captain Kirk and the Orion Slave girls. The Zithitian men rule the galaxy with their sexual prowess.

Born with a reading disability, Tarq believes the he was only good for one thing - being a stud and having as many children as he can with as many willing women. After all, the Zithitian race is almost extinct.

He would have continued on being a stud for hire until he met Lucy. Taken for granted by her family and bullied all her life, Lucy has her own self-worth issues. But a dalliance with Tarq proved to be a turning point in her life. But before these two lovers can find their happily ever after, they have to face obstacles - real and imagined.

In STUD, Cheryl Brooks returns her readers to a romantic story. Fans of Cat Star Chronicles have been brought to the far reaches of the galaxy. In VIRGIN, the 7th book, Ms Brooks even dealt with interplanetary politics.

But STUD is more personal, as we see the hero Tarq struggle with his disability. We also see how verbal abuse made Lucy very insecure. Yet against all odds, these two found to courage to leave their comfort zone so that they can live without being afraid.

Ms Brooks is still on a philosophical bent in STUD, and by doing so, she gave the Zithitian world another dimension.

This book is rated M for Mature due to sex.

these are really good very hard to put down and even when you know where the story will go it is a page turner. As long as you like sex in your reading you will like the Whole Cat Star chronicles line

During the next two years, Sprite and Pepsi were inseparable. And Sprite's bond with the Levin family deepened. Friends, neighbors, and even Mark's radio audience came to know and love Sprite. As Mark's daughter turned eighteen and graduated from high school and Mark's son turned fifteen, Sprite's health deteriorated -- even as his spirits remained high and his beauty and grace continued to inspire. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2006, the Levin family said their emotional final goodbye. Crushed and consumed with grief, Mark turned to family, friends, and fans for help.

Introduction

Who would have thought I'd write a book about a dog named Sprite? Well, actually, about a dog named Pepsi,too, and another one named Griffen.

Every dog lover has a dog story. This is mine.

For most of my life, my passions have involved big goals and big thoughts. I've spent my career as a lawyer and broadcaster working on constitutional issues, writing about public policy, and talking about current events. I've served at the highest levels of our government, and I've even written a book about the Supreme Court. So why write this book? Because I am, fi rst and foremost, a dog lover. Few things in life have given me the kind of joy and, frankly, sorrow, as my relationships with my dogs. And this is especially so with an older dog we rescued from a local shelter.

We called him Sprite.

Sprite was found one day roaming the streets of Silver Spring, Maryland. We believe he lost his original family -- or they lost him. He was taken to a local shelter and later handed over to foster parents while awaiting a family to adopt him. We were lucky to be that family.

Sprite was so beautiful. He had big brown eyes and the softest fur I'd ever touched. As we soon learned, Sprite also suffered from serious and ultimately debilitating health problems, but he never let any of it get him down. Despite life's curveballs, he was a dignifi ed, graceful, and courageous dog. He was friendly to all, humans and canines alike.

Sprite touched me in ways I could never have expected. He taught me to better appreciate the simple and more important things in life. He quickly became an irreplaceable member of our family and a fixture in the neighborhood. Even with all his setbacks, Sprite was full of life. He appreciated life. He cherished every moment, seeming to understand that his time left on earth would be toobrief.

I loved this dog. Writing this book was both painful and cathartic for me. Reading it may be emotional for you. I hope it brings you some smiles. I know it will bring you some tears. I hope, when you're done, that you are moved to hold your dog closer in your arms -- or in your memories.

He was so surprised to see that sweet little face looking up at him

We had to euthanize our beloved miniature schnauzer, Lucy, this morning. She was 14 and a half. She had diabetes, one blind eye and she was mostly deaf. She was our baby and a lot of our lives were spent caring for her. When she was seven weeks old, I gave her to my then-boyfriend, now husband, for a 52nd birthday present. I put her in a computer printer/fax machine box, pretending it was heavy, and presented it to him in front of his kids and mine. He was so surprised to see that sweet little face looking up at him. Lucy cooperated miraculously by remaining perfectly silent.

Honestly, I am beside myself with grief. I remembered that people took solace from Mark Levin's book, "Rescuing Sprite," but I couldn't imagine how it could help. I was going to read the reviews to try to understand just how it could help. Instead I just bought the kindle edition and immediately started reading it.

It is beautifully written, and before long I was immersed in Mark's story of family and beloved and extraordinary pets. After a while I realized that I wasn't dwelling on the loss of Lucy, if for just a little while. It is helpful to know that others have had the same feelings I am now experiencing. I must now grapple with Life Without Lucy after the many years of loving our dear, sweet girl. It will require learning ways to duck the pain and to just put one foot in front of the other, focusing on moving forward, while honoring my memory of Lucy.

An outstanding, insightful, heartfelt, book.

I've listened to Mr. Levin on the radio for years. He is so passionate and sincere in his beliefs on the radio, while ranting and raving, and yelling that I often wonder how he makes it through his show each night without having a heart attack or stroke. He sounds angry and bitter and upset......and he should.....he sees the country he loves going down the toilet and comments about it. One night he was talking about the things he has done in his life and he mentioned the books he wrote. This was one of the books he mentioned. I never heard of it before, and it was odd compared to the other books he had written. Being a dog lover and having a dog and being a fan of Mark's, I had to read it. When it came I couldn't put it down. My eyes were tearing up almost all the way through the book. I could relate to many, many of the things he wrote about. Many of the things he described my family and I experienced with our dogs. Several times while reading the book, I had to put the book down, wipe away my tears, and take a break before I could continue reading on. For years I had listened to Mr. Levin ranting and raving on the radio like an angry mad man. I never knew this other side of him existed. This is an outstanding book that any dog lover will cherish. When our current dog passes away, I plan on doing what Mr. Levin did to immortalize Sprite. ( You'll have to read the book to find out what....and I don't mean writing a book. ) I never realized before how many people are affected by one persons pet. This is a great book on so many different levels.

Kindred spirits.....

I recently lost one of my best friends; a black and white husky mix we called Panda. Her illness was sudden and devastating. In the space of a few hours I had to make the decision to put her down. Holding her in my arms while the drugs were administered was one of the most tormented things I have ever had to do. I felt disconnected afterwards wondering to myself why the pain and depression were so powerful. After having read Mark's book I realize that perhaps what I experienced is more common than I could have believed. My own emotions were captured here in Sprite's story. I have long admired Mark Levin as a wise and entertaining teacher. Though we will never meet, I recognize him as a brother and friend. Support your local animal shelter and rescue organizations. Put puppy mills out of business. Thousands of unwanted pets are put to death, unwanted every single day. Perhaps not the next one you meet...

About the Author
Serena Roney-Dougal, PhD has a psychology degree from University College, London and a PhD in parapsychology. For 15 years she taugh parapsychology, yoga, and meditation, at Glastonbury, Somerset, where she lives. In 2002 she started teaching parapsychology at Bihar Yoga Bharati, the world's first Yoga University. For the next three years lived and worked with monks in a Tibetan monastery in South India. Introduction to the Looking-Glass Reality The biggest implication of psi phenomena is that we are potentially aware of everything in the entire universe. As mentioned in Chapter 1, experimental research over the past fifty years has confirmed that awareness of psi is dependent on one's state of consciousness, one's attitude, motivation, relaxation and other psychological (mental) aspects. We are separated from this potential omniscience by the thinnest of veils. In scientific terms this veil is call 'filter theory'. We would go totally crazy if we were aware of everything in the entire Universe even for only one second; so we need filters to block out all but the most essential items from our conscious awareness. Unfortunately this trend has gone too far, and the pressures of living in a city have made most city people so blocked that they aren't even aware of what their close friends and family are feeling, let alone whether or not some distant relative is in need of help. We have as a race become insensitive - or desensitised, mainly as a result of living in cities where the pressure of so many people and all their thoughts and emotions is so great that we have to blank out all but the most immediate perceptions or go totally crazy. So now we have to reverse the trend and become more aware, more sensitive, open up the filters a little bit, and open our psychic, as well as our physical, eyes and ears. This of course is easiest in the country! Some people call this process of increasing awareness 'becoming aware of the subconscious', since it is only in conscious awareness that we are so blocked, and the potential omniscience is all there in the subconscious. In becoming aware of the subconscious per se, we also tend to become aware of psychic information. This information is different from most subliminal information in that it was never physically present; we know something that we have never physically heard or seen or felt. The psychic information of which we become aware when we open up to the subconscious has come in by means other than our eyes or ears or other sense, possibly through the 'third eye'. In trying to understand this process by which psychic information is available I shall be travelling through some pretty strange waters. Thresholds and the subconscious Conscious experience is a very limited channel. We can, it is now accepted, be conscious of only about 7 things at any one time. Yet there are 10 thousand million neurones ........

Very Powerful Insights !!!

This very well researched book delves into everything from: Universal Patterns, PSI reasearch, Breaking down rituals to see why and how they work;
How our own PSI and Anti-PSI abilities affect the successful outcomes of our spells, meditations, prayers.
The psychological factors that either help or hinder our ability to affect our destinies.
She goes into theorize about the Pineal Gland is really the third eye, and how science backs this up. Overall a lot of research is presented here to tie in science(including Quantum Physics, magick, anthropology and parapsychology. Actually rather easy to read considering how much information is contained.
Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for some advanced information on working Magick!

Extraordinary Synthesis of Scientific & Occult Material

I read this book years ago, soon after it was published and was blown away by it's even-handed treatment of the material. In particular, the analysis of the pineal gland as the biological equivalent of the "third eye" is exceptional. Skeptics should "subject" themselves to this material which may transform their views and widen their perspective. A thoroughly well-written piece on the physical reality of magick in all of it's forms. I eagerly await Dougal's next work.

Where Science and Magic Meet is one of the source books I use for a survey class I occasionally teach. The book provides information from both a mystical and scientific perspective, without being too *airy-fairy* or b-o-r-i-n-g. I find it very useful as an introduction for folks with no background in the genre and who are skeptical of the idea that *Magick* works. She explains it beautifully.
