About the Author
Kenneth R. Baker, PhD, is Nathaniel Leverone Professor of Management at the Tuck School of Business and Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College. A Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), Dr. Baker has published extensively in his area of research interest, which include mathematical modeling, spreadsheet engineering, and scheduling. He is coauthor of Principles of Sequencing and Scheduling and Management Science: The Art of Modeling with Spreadsheets, Third Edition, both published by Wiley.

Amazingly Clear

Great book! It gives you exactly what you need to know to actually put together a working model on your own. It has enough theory so you understand what you're doing, and a lot of practical application material on how to actually do it. It was my third "modeling" book, but the first one to bridge the gap between theory and application. I attribute this primarily on the author's choice of focusing on showing the models in Excel. The other books I've picked up have tried to maintain a neutrality on what you use to build your model, and they focus on the abstract methods, which are important, but leave you lacking the actual details on how to get it done! And let's face it: Chances are you're going to build your model in Excel and use the Frontline solvers anyway. That being said, I now feel confident enough to take my models out of Excel and plant them in other solvers. Once you build a few, the concepts stick.

About the Author
Dee is a psychotherapist with a master s degree in counseling and psychological services, and she holds a Georgia license as a professional counselor. She is also a certified dance therapist, which means she has training in the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of individuals�... which really just means that in writing about the physical aspects of emotions, about body awareness and breath, she knows what she s talking about and has a credential to prove it. Having written essays, musical plays, and screenplays, she started writing this book to help herself navigate the emotional hurdles in the online dating process. After four months, she met John. John is a visual artist, and the designs in this book are his. He has degrees in art and industrial design. After his divorce, he found himself fighting loneliness. He joined Toastmasters. He dug through the library, studying the neuroscience of social connection. He interspersed traditional dating with online dating, which, of course, broadens substantially the pool of possibilities. He found that meeting more people helped him better define who he was looking for. By the time he met Dee, he had a system: Be sincere in your profile so you ll find someone who gets you. Drawing, not lettering author's strong suit.

Though very skilled in the art of figure drawing, the use of his own hand written a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i, etc. for indicating body parts was difficult to follow. It would have been much easier on the eyes to have had these indicators printed out in Times Roman or for that matter just printed instead of written longhand in each example. Ex: small e looks like an l, etc. This was my only complaint but a huge drawback when tring to follow the text at a rapid pace.

I found this book very difficult to follow because the author uses a lot of hand lettering that can be hard to read. It has a very messy feel to it as far as the way the book is put together, which is a shame because it does have some good information.
