100 years after World War III the world is not the same Ares used to be a law man but when his family was killed all he could think about was vengeance. One day while looking for the people who killed his family Ares finds Faith being attacked by some of the men who killed his family. Ares sets out to protect the women and kill the men. Woman are rare and once Ares sees her he knows he will be keeping her for himself.

Faith is not used to this world, dedicating her life to the convent. When Faith was little her family was killed and the convent took her in so when she was asked to transport a rare relic she agreed. after Ares saved her, Faith has mixed feelings and finds herself very attracted to Ares. The more time Ares and faith spend together the more they begin to fall in love. But Aries is still set on vengeance and faith still has plans to deliver the rare relic something she has kept hidden from everyone. Now Aries will have to decide if faith is worth giving up his vengeance so they can have a life together, and faith will have to decide if Ares is more important than the rare relic and her own plans.

I liked this book it was different from a lot of the books I have read. I liked Ares but at times he was very pushy, but that is part of Ares journey as he falls in love with faith, Ares was possessive and strong and very demanding and Faith was as strong as she could be in a world where woman weren't safe and highly sought after. This was a fast, hot read, and though Ares gets what he wants when he wants it it was really nice to see that Faith come into her own and Ares learn to fall in love.

Enjoyed it!

First time I've read this author and I look forward to reading more from her. I really liked this little story, and thought she did a great job of writing a futuristic romance. Could have been fleshed out a lot more but it was still a good read. Well written, too, and hot! I liked how the heroine was innocent, yet not afraid to fight for her man when it came down to it. Edna was a hoot!

A truly outstanding read! Absolutely loved it!

American Assassin is my first Mitch Rapp and Vince Flynn read. I was intrigued about the books when I heard it was being made into a movie and after a quick Goodreads search on it, I determined it was a book I was intrigued enough about to order, which I did. And once I started reading it, I was hooked on the story and the character of Mitch Rapp.

Rapp is one of those characters that immediately draws you in and keeps you invested in his story. He’s intense, driven, extremely intelligent, highly logical and observant, and immensely skilled at what he does. This particular book takes readers through how Rapp got his start as an assassin, going into who he is and where he came from while also showing how he became the man he (seemingly) becomes throughout the rest of the series.

Once Rapp is recruited by Irene Kennedy and taken to meet Stan Hurley at the start of American Assassin, we start to see how Rapp is different from the others who came before him. All those qualities I listed above start to show themselves in varying different ways, each of which confuse and intrigue the people who either want him to succeed or want him to fail. He’s unlike anyone else, and that makes him as unpredictable as it does dangerous. Which seems like perfectly good traits for an assassin.

This book takes you through Rapp’s training and into his first forays into field work and every single bit of it compelled me to read on. I couldn’t put it down once I started it, and I was never so glad to have made the snap decision to buy the second book in the series before I’d read the first as I was when I finished this book. I was also glad I’d chosen to buy both of books in print because there’s something extremely satisfying about turning the pages on this one. It’s a book that stayed me with, and made me want to go out and buy every single one of the books in the series because of how much I loved reading this one.

If you’re looking for an entertaining and compelling espionage read you can escape into for a while, definitely pick up a copy of American Assassin by Vince Flynn. I am going to go out on a limb and recommend getting it in print, too, because if you’re anything like me, this is a series you’re going to want to own in print.

Action and adventure worth the read!

While awaiting the next David Balducci book, I read this author's first book, Term Limits , and was immediately hooked! American Assassin is the first in the series for the character, Mitch Rapp, and starts at the beginning of his career in the spy world. The story holds your interest and I was sad when I finished the book. For me, that's always the sign of a good book, when you don't want it to end. I have since read next book in the series for Mitch Rapp titled, Kill Shot, also excellent. I would recommend to a reader interested in Flynn's books with this character to read them in order. It is not necessary but the whole of this character is so much more interesting that way!

Good Action Fiction

I finished this book last night. I enjoyed the fast clip, the plot, the twists, the character development, the realism and the action. I didn't enjoy the unnecessary bad language. Fortunately, it wasn't excessive. I have bought the next book in the series (Kill Shot), because I liked this one. The character, Mitch Rapp, who is recruited by the CIA as a non-military recruit was believable. I liked that he had some weaknesses (not a good shot at first). I also liked that his personality seemed kind of normal (not a weirdo or someone with really bad habits). I don't know if I'll make it through the entire series - we'll see how the next one goes. I definitely enjoyed the "escape" from reality for a few hours of entertaining reading.

Awesome reference

This is an extremely exhaustive book and well worth the price. As far as I know, there exists no more comprehensive book on how every muscle interconnects in the human body -- it is truly an encylopedia of the human anatomy.
A few things keep me from giving it a 5 star review.
1: Goldfinger's illustrations are fair, but not masterful, particularly those of the human face.
2: Strangely, there are almost no fully rendered full-body illustrations or even any fully rendered "body part" illustrations -- almost all the good sketches are of isolated body parts alone. For example, there isn't any fully rendered muscular illustration that encompasses both the upper arm AND the lower arm(!) There ARE full body illustrations, but only in a more schematical form.
3: There are no "application" illustrations of the anatomy in case studies such as bending, posing, flexing, etc. Most of the examples are in prone positions.
Granted, much of this information can be taken from any number of other anatomy books, particularly Richer's "Artistic Anatomy," which this book is largely based on and I also highly recommend.
Nevertheless, as a reference guide to the human body, this book has no peer. If you truly want to understand how the muscles of the body interconnect, there is no better alternative. This book is obviously a labour of love.

the best anatomy reference available

this text served me extremely well as i learned figure drawing and is the best anatomical reference i have ever seen, a genuine encyclopedia of anatomy. however, artists should be warned that the approach is analytical (anatomy is broken down into its elements) rather than illustrative (anatomy is presented as pictures of different poses). goldfinger (a sculptor) attempts to explain surface form structurally, from the inside out -- starting with individual bones, then joints, then all visible muscles, facial features (eye, mouth, nose, ear), fat pads, surface veins and arteries, skin folds and finally a gallery of "mass conceptions" of the head, hand and full figure as blocks, continuous planes, cylinders, ovoids and photographed models. (some internal musculature is omitted because it does not affect surface form, but there is extensive information and photo documentation on the facial expression of emotions, largely based on the classic research by ekman and friesen.) this "inside out" approach also determines the content of the 1 to 3 page descriptions of each bone and muscle. in the section on muscles, four diagrams show the skeletal muscle attachments, isolated muscle form, form within surrounding muscles, and surface appearance in lean models, usually from two different points of view. schematic diagrams analyze muscle form into its basic shapes, or show the mechanical effects of muscle contraction. the text is often heavy going but presents unusually detailed and clear explanations of muscle attachments, action, form and interaction with other muscles or joints. there is also much information not available anywhere else, and all sex differences in anatomy (for example in the abdominal musculature and hip bones) are described in the text. goldfinger's goal is to provide the artist with the information necessary to identify the bones and muscles contributing to surface form in any model, any physique or any pose, and i have never found it to fail that purpose. for a breezier and visually more attractive approach, simblet's book is preferable.

This book is intended to be an expanded version of Part 7: Probabilistic risk assessment, 2003, a Published Document (PD) to British Standard BS 7974: 2001 on the Application of Fire Safety Engineering Principles to the Design of Buildings. Ganapathy Ramachandran and David Charters were co-authors of PD 7974 Part 7. Stephen Grey is a British writer, broadcaster, and investigative reporter with more than two decades of experience reporting on intelligence issues. An intelligence masterpiece

As a former senior member of the Clandestine Service myself, I honestly never imagined someone outside the intelligence business, even as talented a journalist and author as Stephen Grey, could write such a masterpiece on all aspects of the wide world of intelligence. This is an insightful and brilliant analysis of widely varied situations in what is a complex underworld, and the author provides accurate insights into all the types of people involved in it. Very few of the intelligence professionals I have known have exhibited a similar deep understanding of the difficult, but ALWAYS necessary sector of HUMINT, and that includes a few DCIs and senior intel officials I have known. I certainly cannot totally comprehend how the author achieved this, but I congratulate him on this remarkable achievement.

Also, this book is a delight to read - every line of it. It is rich, clear, and analytical in the extreme. This book should be a must-read for anyone who is seriously interested in the world of intelligence, including all intelligence professionals - past and present.

Essential reading for spies and their bosses - the public

A fascinating book that crams in so much, the only caveat being it has an overwhelmingly Anglo-US focus.

The Soviet era KGB and East German HVA do get a mention. The historical setting is good, using Russia in 1917 as one and Northern Ireland for another. Oddly very little is from Israel or other nations that use spies. Then the 'new world' intrudes with the demise of the 'Cold War' and the 'new jihadist terrorist' threat takes centre stage.

A few puzzling references appear to non-warfare threats, notably multinationals moving billions and whether in the future there is a national political requirement to spy on them. What would have been the impact of a spy in some of our banks prior to the 2008 "crash" ?

The interplay between HUMINT and TECHINT (in all its varieties) is covered well.

"Insiders" on both sides of the Atlantic have expressed their admiration for the book, including details they thought were not in the public domain. This would be an excellent textbook or students, even those engaged in training and management of spies.

Not to be missed!

This book is truly exceptional. A blueprint for productive, sophisticated espionage in the age of terror-- a must-read for anyone invested in the important ideas of today's complex and dangerous world. If you're interested in MI6 or CIA-- you don't want to miss this. I read and loved A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal and this was great follow up for me-- I felt I really learned a great deal about spycraft, but for the modern era, where things are constantly changing. To say the least.
Great smart book to read this summer--highly recommend.

Why did you write the book now?
My father's journals are rich with personal observations and feelings that have never been seen before. I am sure my father would not mind them being published for he enjoyed stirring the water of public opinion.

What is the story behind your collaboration with John Dean on this book?
John was doing research for another article at the AZ Historical Foundation located at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona when we stumbled upon several boxes containing my father's journals. These papers were presumed lost. We both came to the same idea that the public should see these and thus started the collaboration.

Will the personal writings in this book change public opinion of who Barry Goldwater, Sr. was?
Yes, they will see a kinder and gentler man who really cared about his country, his family, his party, and the average human being's welfare.

Do you think there is a message that this book has to offer today's presidential hopefuls?
Yes, get politics out of the gutter. Politics and government needs to be restored to a higher level of honesty and dedicated service. Start getting along and stop all the bitter partisan fighting.

Has the Republican Party changed since your father's time in office? If so how?
Conservative Republicans have been taken over by the religious right, the so-called social conservatives. My father had a deep faith in God but he never felt a need to put a bumper sticker on his car or dictate to anyone else how or what to believe. The demand of some to vote for a candidate strictly on the basis of religious views deeply troubled him, as such dictates violated freedom of choice and personal privacy, the antithesis of the original philosophy of the Conservative movement, of which he was a founder.

Why is Goldwater conservatism still relevant today?
Because it is all about maximizing individual freedom. This country is the only country founded on freedom but today we are slowly losing these to a growing government.

Pure enjoyment

For those of us of a certain age, Barry Goldwater was the prickly candidate for president in 1964, whose "extremism in defense of liberty" speech turned away millions of voters. But Goldwater stayed around long after that and it's a good thing he did. "Pure Goldwater", a neatly arranged compilation of his journal entries (along with some letters and speeches) reveals a much more complex and attractive man than the public got to know more than a generation ago.

The title of the book could not have been more appropriate. Here we see Senator Goldwater in all of his frankness, lambasting presidents with whom he worked, yet revelling in the love of his family, photography, flying and service to his country. In reading "Pure Goldwater" it's not hard to be in agreement with him on one page and subsequently want to wring his neck on the next. He seemed always to be on the cutting edge of the day's events, even when he was doing some of the "cutting", himself. It's fascinating to see him comment on every president from FDR to Clinton and there was much about most of them he didn't like.

Much of the book centers around his relationship with Richard Nixon and the trials and tribulations of Watergate and perhaps the most intriguing part of the book follows his recollections on summing up Nixon's chances in the Senate for impeachment survival. I remember that day well and how it changed my mind about Senator Goldwater. Here was a true statesman rising to the occasion in a most difficult time in our nation's history.

Barry Goldwater's seeming drift to the left regarding such issues as women's choice and gay rights no doubt sent shivers up and down the collective spines of his conservative colleagues. But Goldwater reasoned well and was always practical and this will be a big part of his legacy...a conservative man ahead of his time. "Pure Goldwater" is a pure joy to read and I commend John Dean and Barry Goldwater, Jr. for allowing us this terrific look at the senator...as told through his own words. I highly recommend it.

Anything John Dean writes is good, often very good

Anything John Dean writes is good, often very good...one of the best writers and I have come to think of him of at least brilliant. Why, oh why cannot we have a leader as this man?...Except for LBJ's Civil Rights bills and his sdomestic and health policies, I know of no president that was great 'til you go back to John Q Adams...Jefferson before that.
Read anything by Mr Dean...you will not be disappointed, no matter who you are.

About the Author
Born in the country near Stafford, England, Pete Cooper began playing the violin at the age of 9 and went on to study English at Belliol College, Oxford. He began his professional career as a fiddler and singer in 1978, performing in Britain, Europe, and the USA first with Appalachian dulcimer player, Holly Tannen, then with traditional singer, Peta Webb. Since the mid 1980s, Peter has concentrated his musical efforts on the study and teaching of folk fiddle styles. His first solo album, All Around the World (1990), released on his own label, Fiddling From Scratch, featured music from Ireland, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the USA. His 1993 album, The Wounded Hussar, explores the rich diversity of the Irish tradition and includes many of the tunes in this book The Complete Irish Fiddle Player. Pete currently teaches in London and reviews for Musical Traditions and Folk Roots magazines. He has composed music for film and, in addition to solo gigs, performs with a group called Vivando whose 1995 release by the same name includes some of his own compositions.

Tommy Peoples Here I Come!

Well, I can dream can't I? Peter Cooper had me playing--using the term loosely--the Irish Washerwoman in no time. Each song introduces a new element to add to your arsenel of Irish fiddling technique: slurs, grace notes, variations, combining tunes into sets, bowing patterns, and on and on. Most tunes are preceded by a brief lesson: advice, a description of what's coming in the next tune, a breakdown of the patterns, or bars or techniques to practice before trying the tune, etc. Tunes progress in difficulty quite quickly for a beginner. I've got a lot to work on already and I'm only up to tune #6. But I'm having a great time and enjoying Mr. Cooper's selections and advice. There are at least seven tunes in this volume that can be found on Bothy Band albums, such as Butterfly (a version of which is also the haunting tune in the film Secret of Roan Inish). In other words, if you like traditional Irish fiddle music, you'll find some of your favorites in this book. Be sure to purchase this book with its companion cd. Cooper plays each tune in the book: it is invaluable to listen to the rhythms and intonation of the tunes played by a real musician. While I'm no expert, it's difficult to imagine a better organized, more inspiring, collection of tunes. If you're in the mood to fiddle, this is a book to try.

This is simply the best book purchase I have ever made.

I learned the violin at 7 and stopped when I was 14. Now at 28 I decided to pick it up again. My friend told me that Irish fiddling is great for solos, and I have to agree. Irish fiddle tunes provide its own rythm so that solo violin does not sound bland. One of the frustrating thing about classical violin is that there are so few pieces written for solo violin, and they tend to be very difficult.

This is a superb instructional book (and make sure you buy the version with the CD). In three weeks I am learning my sixth song and with each song I learn new techniques and idoims. The book starts with simple tunes and becomes increasingly complex and challenging. But even the simple songs are very tuneful and "Irish." The book is much more than a collection of scores but a self-teaching guide to understanding and playing Irish fiddle. Being Asian, I really enjoy all the tales and additional info about Irish music that help me understand where this music comes from. Lacking any talent in violin playing, when I ordered the book I thought it might take a year or so for me to learn something, but now it looks like in three months I can start entertaining my friends with a few tunes.

If I HAD THIS BOOK AS A TEENAGER, I PORBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED PLAYING THE VIOLIN BACK THEN.

TEN Stars - And order the edition that comes with CDs

Mr. Cooper has done what so few have done in teaching us to play fiddle. He has progressively placed each tune from simple to moderately complex, beginning to end, through the book. But the best of this book is the (OPTIONAL) two CD version which has him starting at a very easy pace for beginners. Toward the end of CD #2 he is playing at a faster but still followable pace for the student to grasp. Most accompanying CDs are an "Ain't I great?" show of the author's abilities. Instead, Peter Cooper puts away his ego and steps you through how to perform a finger a roll or a slur the Irish way.

I love this book. It gave me the ability to join in at many local sessions with confidence.

Another reviewer was disappointed that s/he ordered this book, but failed to realize that their book did not come with CDs. These reviews (like this one that you are reading now) are linked to two editions of this book; one that includes 2 CDs, and another (same book) that does not include the CDs. A lean overview of lean manufacturing

This is a great, SHORT overview and study guide for lean manufacturing. Kind of pricey for the length but why have 500 repetitive examples. Isn't that the antithesis of LEAN? I have read many 300 and 500 page books on lean, 5s and six sigma. Always after the first 100 pages, I ask myself why more? This keeps it short. Good job.

The Lean Manufacturing Employee Training Manual

Good overall outline for Lean Manufacturing training but weak on detailed content. If you are not already a "Lean" practitioner, this book is not going to be helpful in establishing employee training course detailed content.
